10 February 2025 – Brandon Festival of the Arts and more…

The temperatures here are still stupidly-low at the moment, but the days are gradually getting longer. The weather-forecasting rodents have had their say, and music students are looking ahead to a spring of festivals, concerts, and such. Welcome to mid-winter on the Canadian Prairie.

As the title suggests, guitar classes for the Brandon Festival of the Arts are all done and dusted for 2025. Details regarding trophy and scholarship awards will follow when information regarding same is available. In the meantime, big kudos to all of yesterday’s performers, and special thanks to our 2025 guitar adjudicator, Winnipeg’s John Himes, for his informed and supportive insights. Hope to see you back here again soon, John!

In other madrygaguitar news:

1) I’ve contracted for a couple of adjudication gigs of my own this spring and summer – details to follow when the time is right…

2) I’m pleased to announce that the Manitoba Department of Health has added me to their roster of the Artists in Healthcare program. I’ve had a few colleagues and students do this gig in recent years, and all have found it to be a meaningful and deeply-fulfilling undertaking. I’ve clocked in two weekly shifts so far, and I certainly concur with their assessment. I’m looking forward to more of this one.

3) I’ve got my tile out already for Fall 2025 registrations – if classical guitar study is turning your head and my take on it appeals to you, please get in touch!

More news to follow from Ye Olde Guitare Shacke in due course – cheers for now, friends!
