16 August 2024 – Welcome back to the Dog Days of Summer…

The days are once again getting shorter, which means it’s almost time to look back on the summer that has been, and to start winding up the rubber bands on the next year of teaching…

The month of July saw me make a trip to Stratford, ON – when your 91-year-old aunt, the last of your dad’s four siblings, asks you to come visit, you say with joy in your heart and without hesitation, “Of course, I’d love to! When’s a good time this summer?” I had a pleasant and uneventful three-day drive down there, a somewhat-more-eventful four-day drive back, and an all-too-short four-day visit with my Auntie Anne in between. We’re both the youngest of our respective litters, and we’ve always seemed to get on very well as a result – it was lovely spending some time with her again.

I also learned some things along the way (and on the way home): 1) Stratford and Brandon are a four-day drive apart, not three (Summer is Construction Season, Paul – Three Days…? What were you thinking!?); 2) The next time around, I’m travelling with a list of the addresses and phone numbers of _every_ damn Honda dealership en route (Hats-off to the terrific folks at the Huntsville, ON, dealership for their kindness, professionalism and quick work in getting me back on the road); 3) Ontario drivers seem to be in one helluva big rush all the time – What, 10kph over the speed limit isn’t fast enough for you lot…?

Soon be time to get back to work – slots in my schedule are filling, so get in touch with me soon if you want a lesson time for this year. You can find me at the New Guitar Shack, making the front room look a bit more like a teaching studio and the basement suite a little more rentable…

Pick and Grin, gang – see you soon!
